Naming Notes

Treble staff, on the keyboard. Ten steps in the order that actually works. Assign them one at a time, or point a student at the step they need.

The steps

Ten steps, in order

Before step 1: students can say line vs. space and recite A–G cycling upward, counting from the bottom. Two minutes at the board.

Stretch: re-run the capstone with mixed instruments — the same written note physically moves. Hardest version there is, and still no timer.

Privacy & accessibility

Free, logged out, on any device

Every link on this page is free and works logged out on phones and Chromebooks. Steps are scored on accuracy under stated conditions — never speed, enharmonic answers are always accepted, and both spellings of a bar are the same answer. No student accounts, no sign-in, and no practice data leaves the student's browser. Mallet Map and this page support keyboard operation, screen-reader labels, visible focus, and WCAG AA contrast in light and dark. Something in the way? Use Report a problem below.
